Arts and Crafts Clock part 1

Hubert Kunnemeyer Is proud to present our latest offering the Arts and Crafts Style Clock.
For those interested I will be showing you how I go about building this piece.
I designed this clock with google sketch-up which you can download for free. If you would like to download a model of the clock I designed you can get it here.
First things first, I decided to use cherry for the prototype only because I had some in the shop already and wanted to get started right away. I will be ordering some quarter-sawn oak for the next clock. I began by jointing and surface planing the cherry to get it all squared up and to a consistent thickness of 3/4”. Referring to my drawings I then cut the parts to rough size at the tablesaw. As you can see in the photo above the front sides are tapered. To do this tapering on the tablesaw I made a jig.

Its just a piece of plywood that I cut out a tapered notch on the bandsaw so I can run the cherry stock through the tablesaw at the desired angle. I added a hold-down and a stop at the end to keep everything together. After running it through the tablesaw I now have the two tapered sides for the front of the clock.
Thats it for today, I will show how I cut the rest of the front parts and assemble them in the next post.
